Types of Malaysia Work Permits
Malaysia offers three main types of work permits based on the nature and duration of employment:
- Employment Pass (EP):
- For highly skilled foreign nationals in managerial or technical roles.
- Valid for 1-5 years, with renewals on a case-by-case basis.
- Requires employer approval from relevant regulatory authorities.
- Temporary Employment Pass (TEP):
- Foreign Worker Temporary Employment Pass: For workers in industries like Manufacturing, Construction, Agriculture, and Services.
- Foreign Domestic Helper (FDH) Temporary Employment Pass: For female domestic helpers from approved countries, aged 21-45, to work in homes with young children or elderly parents.
- Valid for up to 2 years.
- Professional Visit Pass:
- For foreign nationals working temporarily in Malaysia (up to 12 months).
- Applicable for artists, film crews, religious workers, government employees, guest lecturers, students in training, and volunteers.
- Requires a sponsor rather than an employer.
Eligibility Criteria
- Employment Pass:
- Relevant qualifications (diplomas, certifications).
- Work experience in the related field.
- Minimum monthly salary of RM 3,000 to RM 10,000 (depending on the category).
- Temporary Employment Pass (TEP):
- Citizens of approved nations aged 18-45.
- Female applicants aged 21-45 for domestic helper roles.
- Professional Visit Pass:
- Employment by a non-Malaysian company.
- Sponsorship by a Malaysian entity.
Malaysia Work Permit Process
- Job Offer:
Secure a job offer from a Malaysian employer. - Employer Application:
Your employer applies for the work permit through Malaysia’s Immigration Department. - Visa Approval:
If approved, you may travel to Malaysia or apply for a visa with reference (if required). - Permit Issuance:
Upon arrival, your employer will finalize the work permit process.
